About
Liarn Farm
The Highland Estate of Liarn enjoys an enviable setting approximately
half way along the north shore of Loch Rannoch, boasting panoramic
views southward over the Loch to the Black Wood beyond. Records
indicate that Liarn Farm, which was once part of the great
Menzies Estates, has been worked since the 14th Century. The
present Farm dates from 1837, covering an area of some 243
acres of which approximately 182 acres are of natural mixed
woodland with a high proportion of birch, open areas of scrub,
moor and wetland. The colours in Autumn are simply glorious,
as can be imagined. The woods lend themselves to a quiet,
leisurely ramble and are for the sole use of Liarn Farm residents.
There is a small well stocked Lochan (small Loch) within the
woods, with an observation hide beside, which is ideal for
wildlife and bird watching. Liarn Farm has I .5miles of Loch
frontage. Fishing on the
Lochan and Liarn Farms Loch frontage are included in the rental.
Immortalised in the old song by Sir Harry Lauder the now disused
'Road to the Isles' runs through Liarn Farm. This was used
by drovers until the early part of the nineteenth century.
The newly converted stone built cottages have been renovated
with great care and are set within a traditional exterior.
They are fully equipped and offer spacious and comfortable
accommodation, including a balcony with panoramic views over
Loch Rannoch and the surrounding mountains. We also provide a "midge-free" barbeque and picnic area using the latest midge deterent! The landscape
around the loch is quite stunning in all seasons and makes
an ideal base for walking,
bird watching, fishing,
photography or simply relaxing.
There are plenty of activities for
those of a more active disposition.
