Local Area Guide

Outdoor pursuits on offer in the vicinity are plentiful and include golfing, rock climbing, hill walking, mountain climbing, white water rafting, canoeing, sailing, wind surfing, cycling and pony trekking. Pitlochiy, Aberfeldy, Blair Atholl, Perth and Inverness are all within easy driving distance.

We have a pets corner where the children can help hand feed the chickens & ducks, help collect the eggs, pet the rabbits & Shetland ponies, the jacobs sheep love digestive biscuits! There is a small lochan for fishing within the woods of Liarn. Fishing on the Loch Rannoch is from shore or boat (permit required).

While you are at Liarn Farm you may wish to take the train from Rannoch Station to Fort William or Mallaig. This may easily be reached on the West Highland Railway Line (known as one of the greatest and world's most scenic railway journeys). From Mallaig you can then take the ferry over the sea to Skye, Eigg, Muck, Rum and Canna. Alternatively from Fort William you may wish to take the 'Iron Road to the Isles', that is 'The Jacobite Steam Train' to Mallaig and glimpse Ben Nevis, Britain's highest peak.

The village of Kinloch Rannoch provides hotels, restaurants, a pub, shop and a Post Office.

Here are just some of our selected highlights from the wealth of day trips possible from such a remarkably central location:-

By train:
Fort William, Oban, Mallaig and Skye by train – made so possible by our proximity to Rannoch Station on the West Highland Line. Remarkable, stunning railway touring - quite breathtaking at times – one of the world’s most famous and scenic railway journeys.

By car:
Loch Ness – a fairly extensive but very rewarding trip via Pitlochry and Laggan to Loch Ness then return via Fort William, Ben Nevis, Glencoe and Crianlarich back to Aberfeldy and Rannoch.

Loch Tay and Glen Lyon – a beautiful trip via Aberfeldy and Scotland’s oldest tree at Fortingall. A welcome lunch stop at Killin.

Cairngorms – visit the newly formed and controversial Cairngorm National Park, perhaps with a shopping stop at the House of Bruar.

Loch Lomond – yes closer than you think – go west.

Aberdeen, the Granite City – either via Dundee (City of Discovery) and the coastal route, or through Glenshee, Braemar and Royal Deeside – or both!!

Royal Deeside – via Pitlochry to Glenshee and Braemar, and onward to Balmoral and the delightful village of Ballater.

Edinburgh – a comfortable 2 hour drive takes you to the capital city and all its shops, history and attractions.

Glasgow – again a comfortable 2 hour drive.

St Andrews – and ample time for a game of golf - less than 2 hours drive.

Blair Castle, Blair Atholl, Pitlochry and Aberfeldy are all under an hours drive away.
